Early on Thursday most of the folks in my congregation learned of the passing of one of San Francisco’s urban missionaries, Edmond Wong, who held church in the park in one of the roughest neighborhoods in the City twice a week and one Saturday per month.
He reached out to the City’s homeless, the drug addicts, the mentally ill, and down and out, singing songs of worship, giving them a message, and then feeding them.
Over the past year Pastor Edmond suffered from cancer, and on Wednesday, God called him home. In the words of our pastor in an email to our congregation, there is “another mansion in heaven now occupied.” Pastor Edmond gave up all to follow Jesus into the heart of San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood in Boedekker Park, speaking the Gospel to the same kinds of folks Jesus spoke to 2,000 years ago.
We were fortunate to have had him speak at my church on a couple of occasions. The links are below, and I do apologize that the second recording ends before his message does (the tape had run out). However, take a listen to this street preacher, who walked in the footsteps of Jesus in San Francisco.
Please pray for his family – again, to quote my pastor, “Please remember Liz and the children, Candace, Hosanna and Elijah that they will receive that unparallelled comfort that only comes from that same heavenly Father.”

One can only hope to touch as many lives for Christ. Prayers for his family.
Cheers.
Thanks for the great post. Just the inspiration I needed today.
